Rough Week

A picture is worth a thousand words, right? Ya...this pic pretty much reflects how our little dude has been feeling for the last six days.
Saturday morning he woke up with swollen eye lids, a fever, and the same runny nose and cough he has had for a few days now. Sunday morning, he woke up with gigantically swollen eyes, swollen glands on his neck, a high fever, and more severe cough and runny nose. We spoke twice with an on-call doctor who told us to treat his symptoms and get him to the pediatrician in the morning. In short, after a couple days of torture (blood work, etc.) at the hospital and pediatrician's office they told us Carter has Mono. There are times during the days where he shows definite improvements, but for the most part he's not really eating and doing a lot of ordering mommy around. "Mommy, take me" is a favorite as he points to where he wants to go. My little Tasmanian devil has become very chill and snugly (I don't mind the snuggling). He has also taken up falling asleep around the house today and has become attached to his blankets at nearly Costley-esque levels. He says "I want my daddy" often as well as "help please mom." He's been super sweet for the most part, although today he's tried a few demanding tones on me that haven't gone as well as he might have hoped. At my stage in the pregnancy and after six days of this you can imagine I feel a little short on patience every once in a while, but when they're this sick all you can do is love them. The doctor's office called today and a nurse informed me that Carter's tests showed he has Influenza B. I asked if that was on top of the Mono his doctor had diagnosed yesterday and she seemed confused and said she would call me back. Carter's blood levels were pretty concerning on Monday and even more so yesterday when they did further testing. So we are still waiting for all of the results to come back but his doctor said she wouldn't be surprised if he had multiple illnesses with as sick as he is. So, right now we're doing okay, getting ready to spend a quiet Easter weekend at home instead of the bash we had planned at Doreen's house...but he's worth it. :) I'll keep you posted on any further details from the doctor and hopefully many signs of a quick recovery.
